ON BEHALF OF THE ENTIRE FOMA STEERING COMMITTEE, it is my distinct pleasure to present to you these program events for Friends of Music and the Arts' 2008-2009 season.
Highlighting the upcoming seasonal year will be an appearance by Chanticleer, the a cappela men's ensemble known the world over for its non-pareil choral singing. A frequent guest ensemble of FOMA, Chanticleer has become a Knoxville audience favorite, and you will no doubt want to procure your ticket early for this extraordinary event.
Another high point will be the production of "Feather on the Breath of God: The Remarkable Life of 12th Century Mystic Hildegarde of Bingen." Author and actress Carol Anderson of Acts of Renewal in Asheville, North Carolina, has presented this one-woman drama of Hildegarde, the famous medieval musician and mystic, throughout the Southeast and brings her talents to Knoxville for a performance on April 21.
FOMA is also happy to collaborate with the Knoxville chapter of the American Guild of Organists in presenting Jason Roberts, this year's 1st prize winner in the national competition sponsored by the AGO in improvisation. Currently the director of music at St. James Episcopal Church in West Hartford, Connecticut, Mr. Roberts will improvise on submitted themes as part of his recital in March.
Church of the Ascension's own choirs will be featured in the music of Maurice Durufle (the Requiem and Messe "Cum Jubilo") on March 2nd, as well as in liturgical celebrations for Halloween, the season of Advent, and the Epiphany.
We hope you will plan to attend this coming season of music events from our opening organ recital on September 21 through the closing interpretation of the music and mysticism of Hildegarde of Bingen on April 21.
Sincerely,
Jim Garvey
