This year, all of Ascension's children and youth will be studying the Lectionary together. The Lectionary is the regular schedule of church readings that we hear in church on Sunday, along with many other denominations (Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian and others).

The children's curriculum (5th grade and younger) is called "Living the Good News", and is an Episcopal children's curriculum with roots in the Biblical stories. It focuses on bridging our everyday stories with the timeless stories of our Christian faith that we hear every Sunday in worship. We'll do that with all kinds of hands-on activities, storytelling, music, crafts and discussion.

The middle school and youth class will use a curriculum called "Making It Real and Relevant". It will also look at the Lectionary, but in much more media-savvy, pop culture sorts of ways - a plethora of contemporary illustrations using music, video clips, YouTube videos, accompanied by lots and lots of class discussion. Knowing the stories of the Bible is important, but what we really need to know is why those stories matter to us today. Where's the meaning for us as we live out our daily lives? And what does the Bible have to do with the latest YouTube video - well, you'll just have to come to find out!

Classes are offered for children and youth age 3 through high school, as follows:

1) age 3 and 4 (Room 205, next to the nursery)

2) pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten (Room 202)

3) First - Third Grade (Room 204)

4) Fourth - Fifth Grade (Room 106)

5) Middle School (Room 104)

6) High school youth attend Sunday school in the Youth Room (Room 106).

We would love to help you find your child's or young person's place here at Ascension!
