The music at Ascension's traditional services is led by Jim Garvey, director of music, and John Brock, associate in the music department.

Three choirs serve at Sunday worship services and on other occasions. The Parish Choir and the Ascension Singers both sing at the 10:30 traditional service, as does the Junior choir. These ensembles regularly present special music for different seasons of the liturgical year, such as an annual All Hallow's Eve procession, candlelight service of Advent Lessons & Carols, and a Twelfth Night observance of the Epiphany. For Christmas and Easter these musicians are augmented by visiting performers providing brass and percussion accompaniment.

The choirs also perform in concert with orchestral accompaniment under the auspices of Friends of Music and the Arts (FOMA). This support society additionally hosts performers and ensembles of national and international renown in a series each year. The Karl Wilhelm organ, one of two in the church, has become a popular resource for recitals by local and regional musicians, and is frequently used for degree recitals by the UT School of Music.

CD's of the choir, as well as of the organ playing of both Jim Garvey and John Brock, are available in the music office. If you would like to know more about the music in worship, about FOMA, or would like to join one of the choirs, please call Jim Garvey, 588-0589, ext 216.
