If you are new or returning - Welcome!
Greeters
will be inside the glass lobby doors on Sunday mornings to welcome you
and to guide you if you need assistance or want questions answered. Please
visit our Welcome Corner in the lobby to talk with one of the Hospitality
Greeters who are there to meet you and give you information about Ascension. Clergy and lay persons join to teach this class which is several weeks in length. Each class covers a different aspect of the Episcopal faith. The classes are offered to assist each participant to make educated decisions about Baptism, Confirmation, and church membership. There is no pressure to join the church, only time to learn more about the personal spiritual journey you have continued by attending church with us. Many
people who attend this class are new or returning to Church of the Ascension
or Christianity; others have been members for many years and are taking
it as a "refresher" course in topics studied including:
the Holy Bible, church history, prayer, liturgy, and sacraments. There
is also time to get to know your classmates and other members of Ascension. Twice
a year the Greeters host a party in honor of people who are new to Ascension.
It is an informal dinner gathering usually at the home of a parishioner.
Usually on a Sunday night, newcomers, greeters, staff, vestry, clergy,
and other parishioners attend and have a good time getting to know each
other. This year the parties are scheduled for June and November. Mark
your calendar now and call the church (588-0589) to sign up during the
month before the party so that we know how many are coming. Twice
a year a reception is hosted by the greeters to welcome all who have joined
the Ascension community. On a Sunday morning in the Parish Hall the parish
gathers for a time of fellowship during the Christian Education hour.
These receptions occur during March and September. You may be on our mailing list at any time. You may become a baptized or confirmed member by having a letter of transfer sent to us or by being baptized or confirmed at Ascension. These topics are addressed in the Inquirers class or you may call Bettie Corey (588-0589) to ask questions or to be placed on the mailing list.
