The chancel flowers are given to the glory of God and in thanksgiving for the clergy, staff, and parishioners of the Church of the Ascension, by Nancy Butler.
The white rose on the altar is given in celebration for the birth of Violet Marie Geodert, granddaughter of Ned and Beth Patterson.
Contemplative Prayer to continue through Summer // The contemplative prayer group will continue to meet in the library through the summer after the early service (approximately 9:00). We also plan to view a Keating film and discuss various topics.
Reaffirmations During Bishop’s Visit // Do you feel led to take a fresh step in your spiritual journey? Need a gentle nudge in the right direction? Or, simply, do you wish to reaffirm your faith? You can take that step with the visit of Bishop Cole. Part of the Bishop’s visit is to provide you the opportunity to reaffirm your faith amidst your church community. Should you wish to reaffirm your faith on Sunday, June 3, during the Bishop’s visit, please email Tristen in the parish office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ascension Trekkers // Wednesday, June 6 // The Ascension Trekkers will hike in Greenbrier on the Graveyard Ridge/Rhododendron Creek Manway/Injun Creek trails which combine for a total of 5 moderate miles. There are sights to see and streams to cross in this lovely hike. Make sure to RSVP to Emily Vreeland, email@example.com.
Gifts and Talents – Beginning May 30 // Are you new to Ascension – or a seasoned member – and seeking ways to get involved in church life? An excellent resource is the introspective, informative and perhaps life-changing “Spiritual Gifts and Talents Workshop”. Here, in small groups, you can discern the unique gifts given to you by the Spirit while bonding with new and old friends. You will also learn how you might use your gifts to God’s glory in the church, the community or even the world. The cost is free but you will need to commit to all five classes, held on consecutive Wednesday evenings May 30th through June 27th from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Mark Your Calendars!! // Saturday, June 9 – Ascension Workday 8:30am – 12:30pm // We are looking for members of all ages to help in our 2nd Annual Ascension Workday. We will have projects for everyone! We need painters, yard workers, playground workers, pew cleaners – you name it we can do it! Please look for the sign up sheets in the foyer. We will be communicating jobs and captains of each work group coming up. So watch for more details!!
The Sisterhood goes to Sea // Monday, June 18 // The Sisterhood will have their “Ladies Night Out” at a new location of a local favorite restaurant which has received rave reviews, Chesapeake’s on Parkside Drive. They specialize in seafood (flown in daily) and steak, but also offer chicken, burgers, and more. So, there is something for everyone! A Family Promise Thank You // Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help during our family promise week. You provided wonderful meals and a loving, accepting, safe place for 3 families in crisis. Never underestimate the power of your presence.
Community Chest Drop-Off // Community Chest Drop-off will be available in the side parking lot this coming Saturday, June 2. Bring your gently used clothes and household items to be donated to Community Chest, where items are sold at a uniform price, and proceeds are turned immediately back into our community.
VBS is almost here! June 11-14, 2018 from 6:00-8:30pm each evening. We still need volunteers! Registration for volunteers and children can be found in the church foyer and at the following link: https://vbspro.events/p/ascension2018
Summer Kindermusik Events! Our first event will be June 20 from 10:00-10:45am. Cost is $10.00/child or $15.00/Family. Childcare offered for siblings not in the class. Pre-Registration Required at firstname.lastname@example.org
Our next dates will be July 18-6:15-7:00pm and August 22-10:00-10:45am. Come try one or all three! Kindermusik is a wonderful music program for young children and parents/grandparents. Having fun is just the beginning! This program provides engaging musical learning experiences during the years most critical to brain development. So come try it out this summer! Fall Registration will begin in August.
Our first summer Date Night is June 1 from 6:00-9:00pm. Pizza served! So email email@example.com to sign up your kiddos for a night of fun.

Milkshake Mondays // Every Monday from 7:00-8:00 pm in the summer starting June 4 the youth (rising 6th grade-recent graduates) will be welcome to meet GiGi at the Cookout (321 Cedar Bluff Road) for fellowship, sharing of our summer plans, and the enjoying of milkshakes. No need to RSVP, just show up! Contact GiGi with further questions.
VMC Service // AYG will be serving dinner to the residents at VMC on Tuesday, June 5. We will meet at Ascension at 4:00 pm on that day and drive to VMC to serve. Space is limited, and sign-ups will be first come, first serve so please contact GiGi at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up.
