Ascension Endowment Opens Grant Proposals // The Ascension Endowment Fund seeks to enable the congregation to fulfill its mission more completely by developing its ministries beyond what is possible through the annual operating budget. Distributions from the Endowment Fund are used for a variety of purposes such as: outreach ministries and grants; seed money for new ministries and special one-time projects; and capital improvements of the church. The last proposal deadline for 2017 is December 31. Proposal request forms are available in print in the church office or on the church website at www.knoxvilleascension.org/endowment. Please complete and return proposals on or before the deadline via fax (865-584-7922) or mail (ATTN: Endowment Committee, 800 S. Northshore Dr. Knoxville, TN, 37919). All mailed proposals need to be postmarked by the deadline.
Visit by The Rt. Rev. Brian Cole // The Rt. Rev. Brian Cole, newly ordained 5th Bishop of East Tennessee, will visit and preach at Ascension on Sunday, December 31, at the 8:00 and 10:30 am services.
End of Year Donations // The deadline to have your contributions count for the 2017 fiscal year is Friday, January 5, 2018. They must be dated and/or postmarked December 31, 2017. Worship Service Changes // As noted above, the new two service worship schedule begins this coming Sunday, December 31, with services at 8:00 am in the chapel and at 10:30 am in the nave. The early 8:00 am service will move to the nave beginning on Sunday, January 7.
The Lunch Bunch: Featuring Jim Haslam, Sr. // Tuesday, January 16, 11:30 am // Get ready for a great luncheon as The Lunch Bunch presents Jim Haslam, Sr. Please make sure to sign-up to attend in the church office or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We want to make sure we have enough food to fill your tummy! Bring $2 along with an appetizer, side dish, or dessert with enough to share.
Save the Date: Parish Meeting // On Wednesday, January 24, a parish-wide meeting will be held after a 6:00 pm dinner in the parish hall. Details to come!
Adult Sunday School
All Adult Sunday School classes are canceled for the holidays and will resume on Sunday, January 7.
Children’s Sunday School // There will be NO Children’s Sunday school or Children’s Church on Dec. 24, and 31. This allows our volunteers a much needed break. Please check the holiday schedule for times of services on Sundays so you don’t miss anything!
All Youth Sunday School classes are canceled for the holidays and will resume on Sunday, January 7, at 9:15 am in the Youth Room.
Ascension Youth Group // Ascension Youth Group programming will resume on January 7 at 6:00 for High School, and January 10 at 6:30 for Middle School. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!
Grace Point Winter Sessions // Grace Point Camp is a camp and retreat center owned by the Diocese of East Tennessee. They are hosting two Winter Sessions for teens: For Grades 9-12, January 12-15, 2018 and for Grades 6-8, February 2-4. Wednesday Night – Food for Body and Soul
The weekly Wednesday Night supper and programming is canceled for the holidays and will resume on Wednesday, January 10.
Ascension Trekkers: Burning off the Holiday Treats // The Ascension Trekkers will take a post Christmas hike in the mountains on Wednesday, December 27. The exact location is still being determined but it will be moderate in difficulty and in lower elevations. Spending some time in cool nature is a great opportunity to shake off the chaos of the holidays and to further our meditations about Epiphany. The Christmas Roast Beast is here! // The Smokin’ Brothers of The Brotherhood of Saint Andrew are smoking pork tenderloins for Christmas feasts. These 2-3 pound tenderloins will fill the bellies of all your guests and family! They will be available after each Christmas Eve service, 9:00 am, 5:00 pm, 8:00 pm, and 11:00 pm, as long as supplies last. A recommended donation of $15 will support the various ministries of the Brotherhood, including the preparing and serving of meals at Volunteer Ministry Center to homeless community members, and to University of Tennessee college students before worship at Tyson House.
Christmas Day-Monday, December 25th
10:00 AM Christmas Day Service
One service of Holy Eucharist-Rite II will be held at 10:00 am on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25. Take the opportunity to celebrate the entry of Christ into the world with your family on one of the most special mornings of the Church year. Note that childcare will not be provided for this service.
Sunday, December 31st
8:00 & 10:30 AM Services
There will be no Sunday School or Children’s Church on this Sunday. The 8:00 am service will be held in the chapel, and the 10:30 am service will be held in the nave. The Rt. Rev. Brian Lee Cole, 5th Bishop of East Tennessee, will visit and preach on this Sunday.
Friday, January 5th – Epiphany Service
6:00 PM Service, Dinner in Parish Hall Afterwards
The choirs of Ascension will sing carols of the Renaissance era for a Twelfth Night celebration. A sign-up binder for the dinner, catered by The Entertainer, is available in the Foyer. Pricing is $15/adult, $6/child, and $40/family maximum. Email email@example.com to reserve your seat. RSVP by noon on Wednesday, January 3.

Our two service schedule continues on Sunday, January 7 with an early service of Holy Eucharist Rite I at 8:00 am in the nave, Sunday School for Children, Youth, and Adults at 9:15 am, and a later service of Holy Eucharist Rite II at 10:30 am in the nave.

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension maintains two prayer lists. The first list is for parishioners, staff, and their immediate families, and prayers are offered for these people during Sunday services. Their names can be found on the white prayer board in the office area.
The second list includes additional names as requested by you. The people on this list are prayed for by members of those leading morning and evening prayer at the Daily Office. Names will remain on this list as needed for appropriate prayer support.
