Week of March 13, 2016
“Welcome to Ascension!” If you are new to the Church of the Ascension, please don’t leave until you stop by the Church’s welcome counter in the church foyer. We have a gift bag for you that includes a copy of the latest Church newsletter, plus a few goodies. Long-time Ascension parishioners will be available to answer any questions you might have and to explain how you can become more involved, should you be interested. If you would like to have your name added to the email or street mailing list, simply fill out a pew card (on the back of the pew in front of you), and drop it into this morning’s offering plate.
The Easter Offering and Easter Flower envelopes are out! If you would like to make a donation to Easter flowers in memory or honor of a loved one, please use one of the cards available in the main narthex or at the communications center in the parish office. So that your gift or memorial might be included in the Easter service leaflet, please return cards to the communications office by Tuesday, noon, March 22nd.
Our sympathy goes out to Venice Peek on the passing of her daughter, Mary Peek Baker; and to Paul Burge on the passing of his father, Ralph Burge.
Just as a reminder, there will be no Sunday school for children or adults on Palm Sunday or Easter. All Sunday school classes will resume as usual on April 3rd. However, there will be Children’s Church as normal.
Coffee Hour Ready for good food, fellowship, and a time to catch up with your fellow Ascension parishioners? Head down to the Parish Hall after the 11:15 a.m. service to catch a bite to eat and meet fellow Ascension members.
Calling all high school seniors! If you are graduating from high school this May, we want to honor you! Please send an email with your name and school to firstname.lastname@example.org by March 31st.
There will be no youth confirmation class or high school youth group today, and there will be no middle school youth group on Wednesday. Have a wonderful Spring Break!
High school youth, today is the regular deadline to register for the summer domestic mission trip (July 7-14). Please give your $99 deposit to Chelsea or slide it under her office door.
Middle school youth, the deadline to register for the spring retreat (April 8-10) is March 23rd. This will be an exciting weekend to grow closer to God and to one another, so you definitely won’t want to miss out! Go to http://etnyouth.org/registration.htm to register. Contact email@example.com with any questions about upcoming youth events.
The LAMBS ministry will not be selling Easter Cards on March 20th.
We’re curious, how do you like the chapel for the 7:45 service? Please see any of our clergy members today and in the coming weeks to give your feedback on holding the 7:45 a.m. service in the chapel. We look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Noel Dill’s donkey, Susie, will appear at the 9:00 a.m. Palm Sunday service on March 20th. Be ready to march in to the church waving your palms for the procession in the roundabout in front of the main door.
Ascension will host the Family Promise families from April 3-10th. Please consider volunteering to grocery shop, do laundry, come play with the kids, or spend the night! Bring your family and dinner one night or get a group of your friends to provide the dinner together. It’s a great way to have fun and serve the community at the same time. If you are interested, please contact Ann O’Connor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There will be NO regular Children’s Sunday school classes for the next 3 weeks, March 13, 20 and 27. We will, however, have a combined Sunday school for children in Pre-K to 5th grade in the Children’s Church room TODAY during the Sunday school time, 10:15-11:00 a.m. Regular classes will resume April 3rd.
The Children’s Easter Egg Hunt and Service will be Saturday, March 26, 3:00 p.m. Please bring a basket for your child!
The Lunch Bunch will meet on Tuesday, March 15th, at 11:30 a.m. Please bring an appetizer, side dish, or dessert along with $2. Our featured speaker is The Rev. Christopher Hogin.
The Sisterhood, a gathering of women of the parish, has reserved a private room in the Plaid Apron for St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, at 6 p.m. The Plaid Apron is one of our favorite restaurants to visit because of their delicious and innovative menu. We think you will find something wonderful to order. Come join us for some lovely conversation and food. Since we are reserving a private room, there is a limit of 12 who may attend. RSVP to Laurie Nalle at email@example.com or 865-531-7344. We hope to see you there!
The Trekkers Conquer New Heights! On Saturday, March 19th, we will go to the eastern side of the Smokies to hike Mt. Cammerer which is 11 miles round trip and rated difficult. The Mt. Cammerer Lookout is a restored 1930s fire tower on the rocky summit and gives a panoramic view and a place to rest and restore before hiking back down the mountain. Please contact Joe Vrba for further information at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Parish Supper will feature Chicken Tortilla Soup, Minestrone, Salad, Bread, and cookies.
