A Time for Celebration  Please come to the Parish Hall after the 11:15 am service next Sunday as we celebrate the ministry of The Rev. Amy H. Morehous at Ascension.

A few service tips:

Prayers: Have you noticed empty time/space during prayers for you to offer a prayer? Feel free to say the name of someone you know who is in need during this time, and feel free to say that person’s name out loud!

Altar Rail: Is your knee causing you pain? Do you find it difficult to kneel? Please feel free to stand while receiving communion, particularly if you are in pain or have trouble getting up from kneeling.

Kneeling During Worship: You will notice that a number of people like to kneel during prayers of confession. Although your body posture should be comfortable for you, the basic guideline is: Stand to worship; Sit to listen; Stand to pray; Kneel to confess.

Coffee and Water: Unless you have a unique dietary or medical need, please respect  the worship of your fellow parishioners by leaving your coffee and water in the car.

We extend our sympathy to Clara Parman on the passing on her sister, Helen Smith.

Adult Christian Education will continue through May 15. The Thirties-More-or-Less will meet in the New Transept-Parish Hall, the Middles will meet in Room 102, the Empty Nesters will meet in room 101, and Retirement and Beyond will meet in the Old Transept-Parish Hall.

Children’s Ministry Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, May 15! Sunday school and Children’s Church Volunteers…this is for you! Stop by for some delicious breakfast treats and a small token of appreciation for your help this year. We will be in the education wing during the Sunday school hour. These programs can’t exist without your help so let us do something for you on this special day.

Godly Play Begins! You have been hearing a lot about Godly Play and we will implement it in Grade K-2 Sunday School classes this fall.  It is a Montessori approach to Bible stories and allows kids to wonder about what they hear. Come and watch a story being told during the Sunday school hour on May 15th, 10:15 am in Room 204!

VBS is right around the corner (June 13-15, 9:00-noon). Adult volunteers are needed to lead groups to rotations, facilitate short classroom discussions, lead some fun science projects, and oversee games. We also need people to help with snacks and give leaders short breaks. All supplies and materials are supplied. A willingness to share God’s love with the children of Ascension is a requirement. Sign up forms are available on the communication counter, or digitally on Please contact for details.

High School Youth group will meet tonight from 6:00-8:00 pm in the youth room. Come out for our second to last youth group of the school year! We’ll have pizza, discussion and game time.

Middle School Youth, come out on Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 pm! Join for a pizza dinner together as well as a Bible lesson and an outdoor game. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing!

Special Note: Remember that next Sunday, May 15th, will be the last Sunday School until fall.

The Lunch Bunch will meet on Tuesday, May 17, at 11:30 am in the Parish Hall. The Rev. Jim Anderson is our guest speaker and has a great talk in store for you. Bring $2, an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to this engaging fellowship at Ascension. Please sign up on the reception counter in the Parish Office.

A creative and fun hiking adventure!  On Friday afternoon, May 20, we will leave the church at 3 pm to get to the Cosby Nature Trailhead in order to meet our guide, “Rev” Dean (so nicknamed because he also is a rafting guide and has “dunked” lots of folks) who will take us on a 4.8 mi round trip moderate hike to Suttons Ridge to see the sunset at about 8:30 pm.  The trail offers flowers and wonderful views. Contact Emily Vreeland ( or 470-2518) for more information or to RSVP.

Summer Giving Options at Ascension  Going on vacation soon? Wondering about completing your pledge while away? There are many options for giving at Ascension.  If you have any questions about your pledge or giving options available to you, drop by the Parish Office to see Linda Hawley or Beverly Hutto, or email them at

This means that room assignments and availability will be limited and changing throughout the summer. If your group or ministry meets in any of these rooms, or is in need of accommodations, please email Virginia Branum at for room availability and information.
