The annual A Toast to Bolivia will take place on Friday, May 18, beginning at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $30/individual, and $50/early bird couples, and $55/couples at the door. You can purchase tickets in person on Sunday mornings from Priscilla Jenkins in the Foyer. Wine & Food Sponsorships: We’re making it even easier this year to sponsor wine and food at A Toast to Bolivia. Can’t cook a huge dish to share at the event but want to support the food courses? We have a new “Manna Sponsor.” Manna Sponsor – $75: Provides monetary support for the food courses to pair with wines. Summer Quire is Here! // If you have ever considered joining the choir, or thought you might sing for even just a season, Summer Quire is for you. VBS: It’s Not Just for Kids // June 11-14 // You may remember the days of VBS with fun crafts, silly games, and songs, but what made it special was not just what you did, but the people who made it happen! This year, consider volunteering on one or all of the VBS nights. With many different support options available, you can find the right fit for participating in VBS. Do You Speak a Foreign Language? // Next Sunday, Pentecost Sunday, marks the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and, in particular, their gift of foreign language. The Sisterhood: Ladies Night Out // Monday, May 21, 6:00 pm, Home of Becky Fuller // The Sisterhood will have a “Ladies Night Out” to kick off Spring at Becky Fuller’s beautiful home on the lake! Lunch Bunch: Featuring the O’Connor Singing Seniors // Tuesday, May 15, 11:30 am, Parish Hall // Entertaining The Lunch Bunch at their Tuesday, May 15, meeting will be the “O’Connor Singing Seniors.” The John T. O’Connor singing Seniors was formed in 1978 as the “Knox County Teachers Chorus.” During the past 40 years it has grown under four directors to now comprise almost 80 men and women ages 50-93, some have been active for over 18 years. They present music for two seasons each year, of eight to ten selections in three to eight part harmony. This concert will be presented in the Nave by at least 50 members of the singers, under the direction of Jean Osborne. Make sure to bring $2 and an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to share with The Lunch Bunch. The fun begins at 11:30 am with the concert starting at approximately 12:45 pm. The Greeters: A Fun Ministry // Every Sunday greeters at our doors welcome our parishioners and guests every Sunday.  This ministry is a great way to reach out to our parishioners and most especially to newcomers who may be attending for the first time.  Sue Peiers has been coordinator of this ministry for the past 8 years.  The Greeters Ministry started off with 10 greeters, but now it has bloomed to 38 active greeters.   It’s a great way to meet and welcome people to our church every Sunday. We also encourage younger couples with small children to participate.   If you’d like to serve on the Greeter’s Ministry please contact Tristen Hicks,, or Sue Peiers (her telephone number is in the Ascension church directory).  

Parish-Wide Adult Sunday School

The Forum, The Seekers, and The Sojourners Sunday School classes are canceled today in light of a Parish-Wide Adult Sunday School gathering in the Parish Hall at 9:15 am to meet The Rev. Pat Wingo, interim for Church of the Ascension.

Wrapping Up the Year // After today’s Parish-Wide Sunday School, one session of The Forum, The Seekers, and The Sojourners will take place on Sunday, May 20, Pentecost Sunday. The first Summer Sunday is Sunday, May 27. There are currently no Summer Sunday School offerings this year.

Wednesday Night – Food for Body and Soul

Parish Supper // 6:00 pm – Parish Hall // This Wednesday Night Parish Supper menu will feature balsamic glazed meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad with walnuts, cranberries, and feta cheese, bread, and dessert. Documentary Viewing: An Appalachian Dawn // Parish Hall-Old Transept // Ready for something a little different? The first half of the movie “An Appalachian Dawn” will be screened for this Wednesday night’s programming. It is a true story of the town of Manchester, Kentucky, once mired in the hopelessness of vicious feuds, crushing poverty, pervasive corruption, and epic drug use until The Holy Spirit descended upon the city and transformed it into the City of Hope. The last portion of the film will be viewed the following week, with time for discussion.

Children’s News

Our last Tweens meeting before summer break is May 20 from 5:30-7:00 pm. All kids moving into Tweens this fall ( grade 2 into 3) are invited to attend! Or if you are in 3-5th grade and just want to come see what it is all about, join us! Dinner and games will be on the schedule!

AYG Meetings // There will be NO High School Youth Group tonight (Mother’s Day). Middle School AYG meets Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 pm.

Dinner Angels // Dinner Angels is a program in which our parishioners and parents provide meals for our hungry teens during youth group. Want to try out a new recipe? Have a flair in the kitchen? Just want to feed a small crowd? We welcome home-cooked meals and catered meals. Our sign-ups, details, and schedule are available online:

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension maintains two prayer lists. The first list is for parishioners, staff, and their immediate families, and prayers are offered for these people during Sunday services. Their names can be found on the white prayer board in the office area. The second list includes additional names as requested by you. The people on this list are prayed for by members of those leading morning and evening prayer at the Daily Office. Names will remain on this list as needed for appropriate prayer support.
