Greetings Ascension Family and Friends!
Today I write to you with a full and happy, yet heavy heart. I write you with news that is exciting and good, yet bittersweet. After ten wonderful years of ministry with and among the great community and family of Ascension, I have recently accepted a call to become the next rector of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Farragut, TN. I have said in the past that I am grateful to The Church of the Good Samaritan, where I grew up, for teaching me to be a Christian, and I am eternally grateful to Church of the Ascension for walking with, teaching me, and forming me into a priest. Now the time has come for me to begin my formation as a rector. The discernment toward this call has been growing in me for several years and is a wonderful and exciting opportunity for my family and my ministry. I feel blessed and honored that the community of St. Elizabeth’s has discerned with me and my family the movement of God in this call and direction.
My last Sunday with you at Ascension will be August 26th, but I am more than certain that we will spend plenty of good and meaningful time together during the coming weeks. Please know that each of you and this entire church family mean so much to me and my family. You have loved and have been so generous to us throughout the years, and we will forever value and hope to continue our meaningful friendship with you. Please don’t hesitate to seek me out in the coming weeks, for a meeting, a chat, or a hug. I look forward to speaking with and sharing with you all about this next chapter in our lives.
God’s Peace and Bendiciones,
The Rev. Brett P. Backus
