General Community News

The chancel flowers are given to the glory of God and in memory of Helen Harrison Preston and Robert L. Barnes, Jr. by Bob and Laura Barnes.

Addition to last week’s flower dedication: In honor of my mother, Shirley Law, by John Law.

We would like to thank Jeanie Davis (Chair) and everyone on the Flower Guild for their hard work in providing the beautiful arrangements each Sunday throughout the year.  We are very excited to have most of the arrangements dedicated by our parishioners each week. We have almost covered the entire year, but many of you have been asking which Sundays we still need people to dedicate the chancel arrangements.  Below is a list of Sundays available for the rest of the year. If you would like to sign up for one flower arrangement the cost is $75.00 and for two arrangements the cost is $150.00.  If you would like to help with one of the Sundays below, please let Linda Hawley know with a call to the church office, 588-0589, or by email, I would need to know which Sunday and how you would like the dedication of flowers to read.

We appreciate everyone who helps with this special part of our worship.  Thank you!

Stephen Ministry Applications Due Soon // Stephen Ministry is our congregation’s one-to-one caregiving ministry.  God works through Stephen Ministers to plant a seed of hope and healing in people who are faced with challenging life circumstances.  The ministry of Stephen Ministers has been a blessing to individuals, to the lay ministers themselves, and to our whole congregation.  In order to continue and expand this ministry of care, we are beginning another Stephen Ministry training class this Fall.  Applications must be turned into the church office by July 11th, so make sure to pick up your copy in the parish office.  You may also contact Barb Stephens at 859-391-4924 for more information.  Take advantage of this opportunity to share the love that God has given you.

Hurting Parents // Parenting does not end when a child reaches adulthood. Sometimes parents find themselves supporting and upholding adult children through difficult times. Physical ailments, mental issues, depression, substance abuse, or any number of life challenges can bring parents back into the role of care giver. Additionally, some parents find themselves alienated from adult children. This is also deeply painful.  This summer Ascension is offering a gathering, not just to members of Ascension, but also to the wider community called, Hurting Parents. Drawing from the book, Hurting Mom: From Broken to Mended, the goal is to create a group that listens, shares, and supports one another as each person experiences difficult moments connected with an adult child.  The group will meet on Wednesday night for five weeks, beginning July 18, from 6 to 7:15 pm, and concluding on August 15. The Reverend Christopher Hogin will facilitate the first meeting. To sign up, please email Tristen Hicks at or drop by the clergy offices to sign up in person.

Ascension Cares – No One Walks Alone

Caring and compassion for fellow parishioners in need is central to our service to God and each other. All of our pastoral care ministries fall under the umbrella of the “Ascension Cares” ministry to ensure that ‘No One Walks Alone’ in times of spiritual or emotional crisis. This is facilitated by pastoral care leaders called shepherds. They see that the pastoral care needs in the community are met with one of Ascension’s many ministries. An email to your Shepherd team will go to the clergy as well.
