Annual Meeting of the Parish! // The Annual Meeting of the Church of the Ascension will be held TODAY, following the 9:00 am service, at 10:00 am. The parish will elect five new members to the parish vestry. Voting will take place before, during, and after the worship services, but not during the meeting. Requirements to vote are: you must be sixteen years of age, or older; and a registered communicant of the parish.

Choose Our Next Bishop // Are you interested in helping choose our next Bishop? Do you know someone who is? Nominate yourself or another parishioner to serve as an Ascension delegate to convention. You would need to be available for convention on February 10-11, and again on July 28. Submit nominations to Tom Ladd, Senior Warden (tladd@utk.edu), or to Rob Gieselmann (rob@knoxvilleascension.org). The vestry will select delegates at its December meeting.

Inquirers Class // Sunday, December 4 & 11, 10:10 am, Library // Curious about The Episcopal Church or Ascension? Want to learn more about what drives ministry and worship at Ascension? Head to the Library to ask questions and learn more from our clergy. If you have any questions, but cannot make the meetings, send your questions to Rob Gieselmann at rob@knoxvilleascension.org.

Advent Services for 7:45 am Service // The 7:45 am service will take place in the Nave during Advent to reflect the transcendent nature of God.

Next Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent // You will notice seasonal changes to the 9:00 am service including a different salutation and service music. Your clergy and staff hope you enjoy these changes.

Middle School Youth // Middle School Youth will not meet this week. Youth group will resume on November 30. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

High School Youth // You won’t want to miss out on our special event this evening! Come out to the church from 6:00-8:00 pm for dinner and games as well as a special Thanksgiving activity. Hope to see you all there!

Tweens Bake Sale: Thank You Ascension! // The Tweens Bake Sale raised $825, twice as much as expected. Thanks to your generous support, the Tweens Angel Tree project will now be able to support two additional children. Thank you for your support!

Nativity Pageant: Role Casting // Calling all Angels, Donkeys, and Sheep (as well as other roles)! Our annual pageant this year will take place on December 18 during the 10:00 am service. We are excited for this new format for the children to tell the story of Jesus’ birth to the congregation as well as their families and friends. Please come to a meeting tomorrow, November 21, from 6:00-7:30 pm in Room 213 & 211 to cast roles and get a detailed schedule for practices.

Thanksgiving Services // Ascension will offer two Thanksgiving services this year. On Wednesday, November 23, at 4:00 pm a service of “Thanksgiving in the Woods” will be held in the labyrinth garden (weather permitting). This simple, reflective service calls us to express our gratitude for God’s many gifts and to celebrate those blessings with an intimate communion. The second service will be held on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, in the Chapel at 10:00 am with a traditional service of Word and Eucharist.

Parish Supper // There will be no Parish Supper this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Do you like to bake? // Are you looking for ways to serve the church? The Holy Bakers are looking for a few new people to help bake communion bread for Advent and Lent (the seasons when we use loaf bread rather than wafers). If you are interested, contact Barbara Craig for more information: bfcraig6@yahoo.com.

LAMBS Ministry Treat Sale // Sunday, November 27, and Sunday, December 4 // Does Fido need a treat in his stocking? Want to spice up the bird feeder? The LAMBS Ministry will be selling pet treats in the foyer beginning on Sunday, November 27, to raise money for LAMBS.

Poinsettia Sale // The Annual Poinsettia Sale will take place in the Foyer on Sunday, November 27, and Sunday, December 4. Orders will be available for pick-up on Sunday, December 4 & 11. Proceeds benefit the music program at Ascension.

Giving Tree // Beginning Sunday, November 27, Foyer // The Giving Tree this year will benefit members of the Lyons View Neighborhood (the community nearest the church), Family Promise, and Bridge Refugee Services. Gift Cards in $20 denominations will be available for Food City, Wal-Mart, KUB, Kroger, and Target, and in $10 denominations for CVS, Walgreens, and gas-only Pilot cards. Please make sure to have your gift card donations in by Sunday, December 18.

Daughters of the King // The Daughters of the King is a spiritual, praying order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church whose purpose is to deepen relationships with our Lord Jesus Christ, and to renew spiritual life through prayer, work, and witness. Gather outside at the drop-off circle after the 11:15 am today to decide where to go for the monthly luncheon. Women curious about “DOK” are invited to send questions of interest or RSVPs for the luncheon to Elizabeth Parmalee at 865-719-0894 or lizparmalee@comcast.net.

Please keep these individuals in your prayers this week:

Shirley Black, Kimberly Ann Cox, Chuck Cox, Betty Graves, Laurel Humphreys,
Kay Irwin, Jim Key, Gwyn McKee, Elizabeth Nall, Margaret Nelson, Nancy Long,
Bob Parrott, Virginia Perry, Bill Schall, Brad Theiss

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension maintains two prayer lists. The first list is for parishioners, staff, and their immediate families, and prayers are offered for these people during Sunday services. Their names can be found on the white prayer board in the office area. Names will remain on this list for three weeks.

The second list is called the Supplemental Prayer list and includes additional names as requested by you. The people on the Supplemental Prayer list are prayed for by members of those leading morning and evening prayer at the Daily Office. Copies of this list may be found on the counter in the reception area. Names will remain on this list as needed for appropriate prayer support.

Ascension Cares – No One Walks Alone

Caring and compassion for fellow parishioners in need is central to our service to God and each other. All of our pastoral care ministries fall under the umbrella of the “Ascension Cares” ministry to ensure that ‘No One Walks Alone’ in times of spiritual or emotional crisis. This is facilitated by pastoral care leaders called shepherds. They see that the pastoral care needs in the community are met with one of Ascension’s many ministries. An email to your Shepherd team will go to the clergy as well.
