Adult Sunday School

The Forum Class // Old Transept-Parish Hall, 10:10 am // The Forum class will continue with an interactive conversation and discussion prompted by a chapter from The Good Book by Peter Gomes. Prior reading is not required to take part in the discussion!

The Seekers Class // Room 101, 10:10 am // You Say You Want A Revelation?  The Book of Revelation is one of the most complicated books in the Bible. Its gross misinterpretation has caused fear, panic, and often violence within the last millennium. Even today, popular books and movies tap into human anxiety regarding end times scenarios extracted from this book. What exactly is The Book of Revelation addressing? Is it solely about predicting the future, or is it a commentary on the political and social issues happening at the time of its writing? Join The Reverend Christopher Hogin as we approach this complex work of prophecy that still speaks directly to us today.

The Sojourners Class // New Transept-Parish Hall, 10:10 am // What would our lives be like if there had been no Christmas? We will read and discuss the Christmas story from the Gospel of Matthew and Luke to learn how it brings purpose, joy, and love into our lives. No prior reading or preparation is required.

Contemplative Prayer // Library, 10:10 am // A relaxing and loving time of what Jesus referred to as “prayer in secret.” We begin with twenty minutes of silent prayer, letting God come into our hearts, followed by discussion and contemplation from read-aloud portions of the book Tears of an Innocent God by Elias Marechal. No prior reading or preparation is required.

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension maintains two prayer lists. The first list is for parishioners, staff, and their immediate families, and prayers are offered for these people during Sunday services. Their names can be found on the white prayer board in the office area. Names remain on this list, generally, for three weeks. The second list is called the Supplemental Prayer list and includes additional names as requested by you. The people on the Supplemental Prayer list are prayed for by members of those leading morning and evening prayer. Names will remain on this list as needed for appropriate prayer support.
