There are many groups at Church of the Ascension. These groups vary in size, scope, and purpose. We hope that any of these groups may resonate with your own mission and spirituality. If you feel that you are called to a ministry that may be underrepresented, give us a call at (865) 588-0589 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d love to chat about finding the right match for you.
Play Bridge! and Beginners’ Bridge
This lively and dedicated group of bridge players meets every Monday at 1:00 pm. Play Bridge! is for intermediate to seasoned bridge players and meets in the New Transept of the Parish Hall. For those wanting to learn how to play Bridge, or who aren’t quite ready to dive into the deep end of the pool, Beginners’ Bridge offers a chance to start in comfortably and meets in Room 105.
Foyer Groups have been active in Ascension’s fellowship ministry since 1975. They are a part of a world-wide Community of the Cross of Nails which developed at Coventry Cathedral after it was bombed in World War II. The international group is focused on reconciliation in areas of great need int he world. Foyer Groups were instituted to enable members to meet together in a non-threatening atmosphere to share a simple meal. Ascension Foyer Groups have about 8 members each. The groups are mixed in age and include couples and singles. They try to meet once a month, and each family unit (couple or singles) hosts the dinner once over the course of the rotation. A simple meal is prepared by the different host each month, allowing the other members to enjoy just having to show up! The groups will be rotated (or “reshuffled”) twice a year, in October and April.
The Lunch Bunch
This is an open and lively group that meets every third Tuesday of the month at 11:30 am to socialize around a pot luck luncheon and a special guest speaker or activity. If you would like to attend a Lunch Bunch gathering, bring $2 and an appetizer, side dish, or dessert. The main dish is provided. For questions, or to sign up, email email@example.com.
The Other Brothers
The Other Brothers provides regular times of fellowship and theological study/discussion for the younger men of the parish. If you would like information on The Other Brothers activities, please contact Fr. Christopher Hogin, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Stitch in Time
This group gathers around their love of crochet, knitting, needlepoint, and more. Meet in the Parlor at 10:00 am on the first Friday of the month. These gals may have you in stitches by the time you leave!
