On May 10, 2020, the vestry of the Church of the Ascension appointed and placed trust in this search committee to search for a rector. The vestry’s charge specified a rector “ … who respects our rich past, embraces our present state, and will enthusiastically lead us into the future: a leader who is prepared philosophically, professionally, and intellectually to lead a large and diverse congregation with varied expectations.”

The Church of the Ascension, Knoxville, Tennessee, is a 60-year old parish with two Sunday Eucharistic services, a monthly Celtic worship service, weekly healing service, and lay-led Daily Office M-F. Pre-COVID, we had an average Sunday attendance of over 350. We currently have a budget of approximately $1.5M. We are involved in a community-wide organization aggressively promoting social justice, very active in “Becoming Beloved Community”, and support a strong food pantry program in the community. We also have active programs to provide for the needs of parishioners.
